Travel to CONEY ISLAND, NEW YORK with our tray inspired by GOH BENG KWANβs painting of the same name!
With the support of his father and Chen Wen Hsi, Mr Goh Beng Kwan left Singapore in 1962 to study at the Arts Student League of New York. Whilst in New York, he would make regular visits to galleries and museums which he considers to be one of the most significant exposures for him as an artist.
The urban environment of New York inspired many of Mr Gohβs paintings during this time. Coney Island, New York features an array of lines and forms that are rendered with an intoxicating palette of yellows, greens, blue and black, congest at the centre of the painting.
Itβs a perfect example of how Mr Goh dramatize the emotional and atmospheric qualities of a vibrant Brooklyn neighbourhood.
